Hello friends,

I’ve been keeping busy over on my anti-racism newsletter, but I wanted to share some of what I’ve been writing with you. Here are some insights from my recent anti-racism writing:

“You can’t be anti-racist and see other people being oppressed and not feel something and not want to say something, if that’s how your activism happens, or write something or have conversations with the people in your circle. However you choose to tackle oppression, you can’t ignore this moment.” — The Water, Not the Shark

“Most Black and Brown people can instantly judge whether a place is safe (in other words, unlikely to result in outright racism, or more subtle microaggressions). And we know that it matters a LOT whether we’re on our own, in a group of Black people, in a group of people with mixed ethnicities, or with a white partner or friend. All of those factors are weighed up in an instant assessment.” — Staying Alert to Racism

“I’m firmly with those who say “just call me Black”. (Africans in their home countries, of course, often identify with either their countries or other cultural identities; they have to leave the continent for their colour to be a factor.)” — On the Labelling of Black People

“What if there were no more racism? No more need to capitalise the B in Black or Brown because our skin colour was an unremarkable fact that didn’t result in negative treatment? No more need to go through tortuous bureaucratic processes to affirm our identities? No more harmful medical systems putting us in boxes?” — After Anti-Racism, What’s Next?

There were also interviews with some brilliant people, a couple of new reviews, and podcast episodes on accents, misogynoir, and more.

Meanwhile, I launched my Gumroad store with a book club kit for my recent book, and I’ve added some new stuff to my merch store.

Do any of these quotes resonate? What’s new with you?

Thanks for being here,

Sharon
