Getting to Know Sharon
Greetings, fellow writers and Medium peeps.
I’m Sharon, and surprise, surprise, I’m a writer. I’ve been doing it for a long time, starting in the days of newspapers using paste-up to get the latest edition out, moving to magazines using a desktop publishing process, and then to blogging for business and digital publishing.
In my first forays into blogging, I talked about what I knew, which was writing, and what I was learning, which was SEO and online marketing. I launched a blog called Get Paid to Write Online, which is now archived here on Medium, and includes articles like these:
Most of what I write about in my day job as a freelancer is related to digital marketing. I’m often steeped in the world of email marketing, social media marketing, content marketing and so on. My latest portfolio shows some of the breadth of that work. One of my proudest achievements work wise was an 8000+ word SEO guide for OptinMonster.
Aside from that, I share my thoughts on Being Sharon. Some of my writing there includes:
I’m Not American, But…
I am not an American, but I feel the 2016 US election result like a rapier through the heart. I’m in deep mourning…
Why This Man’s Daughter is Scared to Visit America
“I don’t want to visit somewhere where I can get shot for doing nothing,” said my dual-heritage daughter, when we were…
Lately, I’ve been writing about racism. Some of my recent work includes:
I’m Tired (of Racism)
I’m a Black woman, but sometimes I don’t speak about race and racism. Because I’m tired…
While Black: Thoughts on the Assumption of Wrongness
In so many cases, to be Black is to be in the wrong, before you do anything or open your mouth. Here’s why that’s a…
Let’s Not Pretend That Normal Was Working For Everyone
By now, most of us have felt the chill breath of coronavirus. It could be via a couple of degrees of separation because…
I write other stuff too, including poetry, and this short story, which is the first one I’ve actually completed:
An alien, a robot, and a human walk into a bar …
Mox’s jaw dropped. He was pretty sure he’d never seen anything — anyone — anything like that ever before.
I’ve been enjoying reading some of the excellent content in this publication, connecting with more people, and getting to understand more about Medium.
To finish off, here are three fun facts that have nothing to do with anything:
- I love word games, especially those related to Scrabble
- I’m a Reiki master/teacher in the Usui Shiki Ryoho tradition
- I’m an introvert
See you around the interwebs. :)
